The Top 5 Sorted Food Battles Of All Time!

Over the past 13 years, we’ve been on a mission to explore it all when it comes to the glorious world of food. This has included the likes of taste-testing mind-blowing global foods, reviewing kitchen gadgets and TONS of carnage-filled battles in the name of learning! We’ve done it all - from pancakes, seafood, controversial burritos… the list goes on. Today, we launched our first episode of the 10-minute burger challenge and Ebbers was first in the hot seat! If you missed it, you can catch it HERE! In honour of this video dropping, we only thought it was right to make a list of our top 5 battles of all time. Get ready for a chaotic trip down memory lane…

1. First-Ever Battle - Pancakes Battle

Our first-ever ultimate pancake battle between the normals, which tested flavour and skill, went live 8 years ago and has over 1 million views to date. We never expected this to perform as well as it did and were absolutely blown away by how much our community loved this new format - we knew we would be doing many more!

Jamie - Of course, Jamie went for the classic pancake combo of sweet and savoury. We’re talking a stack of fluffy pancakes that were ‘fluffier than the fluffiest kitten you’ve ever seen’ with bacon and maple syrup.

Barry - In typical Barry fashion, he went for ‘pancake art’ where the pancakes had three different colours going on. A great concept in theory… But it ended up going very, very wrong! 

Mike - Mike went for American pancakes with a twist… they had cookie dough chunks in them! Served with a toffee sauce drizzle and pretzel topping.

2. Weirdest Costume - Singapore Battle

At five years old and with over 1 million views, the award for weirdest costume has to go to the (Huttle)storm that is Mike! For this battle, the normals were challenged with creating a delicious Singaporean dish - we saw the likes of Roti John, chicken and prawn laksa, and chicken satay. There was a twist however… to show their love for Singapore, Barry painted his face with the Singapore flag with a cape to match, Jamie had a Singapore-themed cast for his arm, whilst Mike dressed as his, erm, interpretation of a merlion. Mike’s costume was like trying a chilli for the first time - scary at first and hard to forget, but you get used to it over time. To pay homage to the merlion (the Singaporean mascot), he rocked a lion head, a seashell bra, and a mermaid skirt!

3. Best Sabotage - Chicken Battle

The guys are known for playing an odd prank or two in the kitchen, but the best sabotage has to be given to the chicken dish battle video from 5 years ago with almost 2 million views! Barry went for a chicken and mushroom pie, Jamie whipped up a ‘salt bae’ style dish (and dressed like him too), whilst Mike opted for a pulled chicken sandwich.

Now for the best bit… Mike dared Barry to hide an egg in Jamie’s chicken - a very creative way to try and answer the ‘what came first’ debate. Amazingly enough, the yolks on Barry and Mike, as the egg managed to stay intact even after the chicken went into the oven… And Jamie ended up winning! 

4. Biggest Fail - Lava Cake Battle

4 years ago the normals went head-to-head to create the ultimate molten lava cake - judged by Ebbers! We absolutely love looking back at this classic… And it’s not just because of Mike’s blonde hair. This video saw an incredibly iconic fail come from Jamie who made a s’more lava cake served with cinnamon ice cream. To be fair, this sounds absolutely delicious and we would lava slice right now. But whilst it sounded great, the cake collapsed on the plate due to being ‘slightly’ underdone and caused the liquid to go everywhere. Whilst it was a disheartening moment for Jamie, Mike and Baz definitely got a good chuckle out of it. James came to the rescue with a supportive hug after describing his ice cream as looking ‘a bit sad’.

5. Biggest Debate - Burger Battle

Friday wasn’t our first rodeo with a burger battle… Our most controversial one came from 5 years ago. If you haven’t seen this video yet, you may be wondering WHY it caused such a debate, and the answer is none other than… Barry Taylor. He decided to go for classic beef burgers, but included, wait for it, blueberries as one of his fillings. Jamie was particularly outraged, as was a lot of the community!
